The Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Buji Local Government Council, Najibullahi Falalu Tukur, over allegations of gross misconduct and misappropriation of public funds.
The suspension followed the adoption of a report presented by the House Committee on Local Government during plenary.
The committee’s Vice-Chairman, Hon. Sani Sale Zaburan, recommended the suspension of Tukur in accordance with Section 36, Subsections (2) and (3) of the Jigawa State Local Government Establishment Law, 2024.
Acting on the recommendation, the Assembly ordered Tukur to step aside pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegations.
Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, also directed the suspended chairman to hand over all government property in his possession to the council’s Vice-Chairman.
To investigate the allegations, the Speaker constituted an ad hoc committee headed by Hon. Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, representing Guri Constituency.
Other members of the committee are lawmakers representing Maigatari, Malam Madori, Birnin Kudu, Yankwashi, Kafin Hausa and Sule Tankarkar constituencies.
The committee is expected to investigate the allegations and submit its findings and recommendations to the Assembly for consideration.
The lawmakers will determine the appropriate next steps after receiving the committee’s report.
