Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have recovered dozens of smartphones and chargers allegedly stolen during an armed robbery involving a mobile phone dealer in Ogun State, with five suspects arrested in connection with the incident.
The suspects were apprehended by operatives of the Special Tactical Squad (STS) following a petition by Sanniphil Company to the Inspector-General of Police over the robbery of goods reportedly worth about ₦100 million.
The STS commenced a discreet investigation on August 10, 2026, after receiving the petition, leading to the arrest of the suspects in Ogun State.
Those arrested were identified as Okori Joyus, 23; Yetunde Lasisi, 53; Usen Samuel, 20; Usen Wisdom, 25; and Quadri Oluwadare, 56.
According to preliminary police findings, the suspects allegedly attacked a company vehicle conveying mobile phones and accessories from Lagos to Onitsha at about 7:00 p.m. on August 5.
The attackers reportedly made away with the consignment during the incident.
Police said 81 brand-new smartphones and 196 chargers were subsequently recovered from the suspects and secured as exhibits.
The Force said investigations were continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the robbery and recover other stolen items.
It added that efforts were also underway to apprehend other members of the alleged gang who remain at large.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to protecting businesses, individuals and property, while urging members of the public to provide useful information that could assist ongoing investigations.
