The Osun State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a clash at the Naira and Kobo Motor Park in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, which left two people dead.
The incident occurred on Monday, with initial reports alleging that as many as five people were killed during the confrontation.
However, the police said it had so far confirmed two fatalities, while efforts were ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the clash.
The newly deployed Commissioner of Police in Osun State, Ibrahim Zungura, and the Commissioner of Police for the Osun election, Samuel Etaifo, visited Ikire following the incident.
During the visit, the police chiefs assured residents that the circumstances surrounding the deaths would be thoroughly investigated.
They also vowed that anyone found responsible for the incident would be made to face justice.
The command said the investigation would continue as efforts are made to determine what led to the clash and establish the actual number of casualties.
