Two pregnant women and four children have been rescued following a police operation on an alleged baby factory in Abaren Village, Mowe, Ogun State, with six suspects arrested in connection with the facility.
The operation was carried out at about 8:00 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, by operatives of the Mowe Divisional Police Headquarters following intelligence on suspected human trafficking and illegal adoption activities at a hideout on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole.
The rescued pregnant women were identified as 23-year-old Ilesanmi Foluke, who is seven months pregnant, and 20-year-old Ejekwa Melody, who is eight months pregnant.
Police also recovered four children, comprising two boys and two girls, from the location.
Further investigation by the police reportedly led operatives to a hospital within the Mowe axis, where 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong had given birth to a baby boy on August 20.
According to the police, the whereabouts of the newborn remained unknown while Effiong was receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
The attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya, was arrested to assist the investigation and help determine the location of the missing infant.
Other suspects arrested in connection with the alleged operation include Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; and Stephen Ogbona, 39.
The police said the suspects and ase would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation into the activities of the alleged syndicate.
The investigation will also focus on locating the missing newborn and prosecuting any suspects found culpable.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the Mowe Division operatives for their prompt response and operational efficiency.
Ojajuni said the command remained committed to tackling human trafficking, child trading and other forms of violent crime across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible information about suspicious persons and activities.
