The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate, recovered six stolen cows, and foiled a suspected abduction attempt in separate operations across the state.
The Command said the operations, carried out by operatives of the Sagamu Division and the Safer Highway Patrol Team, reflect its commitment to intelligence-led policing, rapid response, and proactive crime prevention.
According to a statement, operatives of the Sagamu Division arrested Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37, following a distress call received in the early hours of July 25, reporting that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and stolen seven cows.
The police said officers immediately launched coordinated patrols around identified exit routes and, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu–Ijebu-Ode Expressway.
The operation led to the arrest of the two suspects, the recovery of six of the seven stolen cows, and the seizure of a blue Nissan Cabstar bus allegedly used by the syndicate during the operation.
The Command disclosed that investigations are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate, recover the remaining stolen cow, and prosecute all those involved.
In a separate operation on July 26 at about 7:10 p.m., operatives of the Command’s Safer Highway Patrol Team thwarted a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The police said officers on routine confidence-building patrol responded after hearing gunshots in the area. Their swift intervention forced the suspected kidnappers to abandon their victim and flee into a nearby bush.
The rescued victim was unharmed and was escorted, alongside the victim’s vehicle, to the Ogunmakin Police Post for safety and necessary police procedures.
Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the professionalism, courage, and vigilance displayed by the operatives involved in both operations.
He said the successful operations demonstrated the Command’s enhanced operational capacity and determination to respond promptly to distress calls and combat criminal activities across the state.
Ojajuni reassured residents that the police remain in control of the security situation in Ogun State and would continue to strengthen intelligence gathering, visibility policing, strategic patrols, and tactical operations.
He also urged members of the public to support the police with timely and credible information, assuring them that all actionable reports would receive prompt attention.
