Governor of Niger State Mohammed Umaru Bago has directed security agencies to track down and prosecute those responsible for the killing of a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officer during an attack at an illegal mining site in Korokpa village.
The governor gave the directive while condoling with the Niger State Command of the NSCDC over the death of Assistant Superintendent of Corps II (ASC II), Aminu Eshin, who was killed in the line of duty.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Bago described the incident as tragic and expressed grief over the loss of the officer.
According to the statement, the governor said Eshin died while defending the nation’s interest and extended his condolences to the deceased’s family.
“Farmer Umaru Bago expresses his distraught with the demise of such a promising young officer who died in the process of protecting the interest of his fatherland,” the statement read.
The governor prayed for Allah to forgive the late officer’s shortcomings and grant him Aljannat Firdausi.
Bago also reiterated his administration’s ban on illegal mining activities in the state, warning that anyone found engaging in the practice would face the full weight of the law.
He assured residents that justice would prevail as efforts continue to bring the perpetrators of the attack to justice.
