The Youth and Students’ Wings of the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) have unveiled plans to stage a 10,000 man Youth and Students’ Solidarity Trek in support of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi), saying the exercise is aimed at promoting youth participation in democracy and recognising what they described as purposeful leadership.
The statement was made during a press conference held on Monday at the Iwe Iroyin Press Centre, Abeokuta, where leaders of the movement said the planned trek would bring together youths, students and supporters of the APC from across the state
Addressing journalists, the YPM Students’ Wing Coordinator, Comrade Dotun Opaleye, described the solidarity trek as a peaceful civic engagement designed to encourage democratic participation among students while expressing appreciation for Senator Adeola’s contributions to education, youth empowerment and community development.
According to him, students remain critical stakeholders in nation-building and must continue to participate actively in the democratic process.
“This gathering is more than the announcement of an event; it is a declaration of our collective belief in visionary leadership, educational advancement, student participation, grassroots mobilisation and the continued progress of Ogun State,” he said.
Opaleye commended the Convener of the movement, Armstrong ’Tope Akintunde, for creating a platform that empowers young people to contribute meaningfully to governance and community development.
He also acknowledged the support of the movement’s Co-Convener, Hon. Odeneye, MHR, State Coordinator, Hon. Olusegun Kaka, and other apex leaders for their commitment to youth and student development.
The Students’ Wing Coordinator cited Senator Adeola’s educational interventions, including the recent award of bursaries and scholarships to 5,312 students of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education in Ogun State, as evidence of his commitment to human capital development.
He stressed that the planned trek would be peaceful, urging participants to remain orderly, disciplined and law-abiding throughout the exercise.
Similarly, the YPM Youth Leader, Comrade ‘Bola Awotubo, said the movement had resolved to mobilise young people across the state’s 26 constituencies in support of the senator, describing the exercise as a demonstration of confidence in his leadership.
Awotubo said the youth remained the driving force of every society and must be encouraged to play active roles in governance and political development.
He noted that the solidarity trek was intended to promote responsible citizenship, peaceful political participation and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 political activities.
According to him, the movement believes Senator Adeola’s record in infrastructure development, educational support, youth empowerment and community advancement has earned him widespread acceptance across Ogun State.
He called on APC youths, students, artisans, market leaders and other supporters of progressive politics to participate in the trek, insisting that the event would be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law.
The YPM leaders reiterated their commitment to sustaining youth mobilisation, promoting quality education, encouraging civic participation and supporting initiatives that advance good governance and development in Ogun State.
They also offered prayers for Senator Adeola, asking God to grant him wisdom, strength and good health as he continues his public service.
