Residents and commuters have called for immediate intervention by security agencies following a fresh armed robbery attack along the Nawfia axis of the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway, where one person was reportedly killed.
The appeal comes amid growing concerns over recurring attacks on the busy highway, with residents accusing criminal gangs of repeatedly ambushing motorists along the route.
A social media user who drew attention to the latest incident described the security situation as worsening and urged the Anambra State Government, the police, military and other security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further loss of lives.
According to the source, members of the Nawfia community had recently organised a large-scale environmental sanitation exercise to improve visibility along the road by clearing thick vegetation and removing logs allegedly used by robbers to block sections of the expressway and trap unsuspecting travellers.
Despite those efforts, the attackers have reportedly continued to operate with increasing audacity.
The latest incident, said to have been captured in a video circulating online, allegedly claimed one life, raising fresh fears among motorists who frequently use the highway.
Residents urged security agencies to intensify surveillance, increase patrols and dismantle suspected criminal hideouts along the expressway, stressing that the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway remains a critical transport corridor in the South-East.
They also appealed for coordinated action to restore confidence and ensure the safety of travellers using the route.
As of the time of filing this report, the Anambra State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the reported attack.
