The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Ahmed Saleh, over alleged attempted rape, impersonation and theft after he reportedly gained unlawful access to a female students’ hostel at Malikiyya College of Health, Old GRA, Bauchi.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, disclosed in a statement that the suspect, a resident of Kobi Area in Bauchi, allegedly entered the female students’ lodge in the early hours of Friday while dressed in a full police camouflage uniform.
According to the police, a distress call was received at about 6:30 a.m., reporting that the suspect had entered the hostel around 2:30 a.m. while posing as a police officer. He allegedly claimed to be attached to Garu Security Service in Bauchi.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer of ‘B’ Division mobilised detectives and patrol officers to the scene, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
Police also recovered the camouflage uniform allegedly worn by the suspect during the operation.
Preliminary investigations further linked Saleh to a series of theft incidents previously reported within the hostel premises, the command said.
The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations continue. He is expected to be arraigned in court after the investigation is concluded.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, cautioned individuals and private security organisations against impersonating security agencies and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of students and other residents across the state.
