A joint security operation has successfully foiled an attempted terrorist attack on Garaha Village in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State, forcing the attackers to flee and preventing what authorities described as a potential assault on vulnerable communities.
The operation involved personnel of the Adamawa State Police Command, troops of the 144 Battalion of the Nigerian Army and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the security team responded swiftly to a distress call, engaged the terrorists and compelled them to retreat towards the Sambisa Forest.
During the operation, security operatives recovered one offensive weapon abandoned by the fleeing suspects.
The police noted that the successful intervention thwarted another attack on communities in Hong Local Government Area, which has experienced repeated terrorist incursions in recent years.
Commending the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabiru Umar Hassan, praised the courage, professionalism and collaboration displayed by the security agencies involved.
In a separate development, the command also announced the recovery of a stolen vehicle reported missing after it was parked at Sammy Store near Lamido Aliyu Mustapha International Airport in Yola.
Police said the vehicle was recovered following credible information from members of the public, leading to the arrest of a 59-year-old suspect, Omega Gubo, of Rumde Baru Ward, Jimeta, Yola.
According to the command, investigations are ongoing, while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
