The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun Sector Command, has prosecuted and convicted 63 traffic offenders as it commenced a special enforcement exercise tagged “Operation ABO, Safe Passage” to enhance road safety and ensure strict compliance with traffic regulations across the state.
The exercise, which began with a Mobile Court session held on Tuesday at the FRSC Sagamu Unit Command, saw all 63 offenders arraigned before His Worship, Magistrate Fisayo W. Okuboyejo.
According to the FRSC, all the offenders were convicted, with no case discharged or adjourned, demonstrating the commitment of both the Corps and the judiciary to the swift dispensation of traffic-related offences.
The command disclosed that a total of 135 traffic offences were recorded during the exercise. The violations included 31 cases of Speed Limiting Device (SLD) offences, 20 Driver’s Licence Violations, 15 Overloading offences, 13 Vehicle Licence Violations, 11 Light/Signal Violations, nine Seat Belt Violations, seven Number Plate Violations, seven Wrongful Vehicle Violations, five Certificate of Roadworthiness Violations, five Fire Extinguisher Violations, five Tyre Violations, three Dangerous Driving offences, two Passenger Loading offences, two Fake Number Plate offences, one Child Restraint offence, one Failure to Comply with Marshal’s Directive, and one Vehicle Mirror Violation.
The command noted that Speed Limiting Device violations accounted for the highest number of offences, describing the trend as a major concern given the critical role of speed management in preventing road traffic crashes.
Speaking on the exercise, the Ogun State Sector Commander, CC Oludare Ogunjobi, said the special intervention patrol is designed to reduce crashes through sustained enforcement, public enlightenment, and the prosecution of traffic offenders.
He warned motorists to obey all traffic regulations, stressing that any violation capable of endangering lives would attract appropriate sanctions.
The FRSC also appreciated the support of the judiciary, other security agencies, and members of the public, while urging all road users to cooperate with its personnel in the collective effort to make Ogun roads safer.
