A routine stop-and-search operation by the Lagos State Police Command has led to the arrest of a 21-year-old suspected armed robber found with a suspected human body part, firearms, and other suspected stolen items.
The suspect, identified as Samson Onilewaji, was arrested along the Lekki-Epe Expressway while travelling in an unregistered commercial shuttle bus with five other occupants.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, officers searched the vehicle and its occupants during the operation.
Items recovered from the suspect include a suspected human right hand, two locally made pistols, one live cartridge, two axes, one Point of Sale (POS) terminal, and five ATM cards.
The police said the suspect confessed to recently robbing three people of their belongings, including the recovered POS terminal and ATM cards.
The command said efforts are underway to identify and contact the victims so that their recovered property can be returned.
The police also said investigations have commenced to determine the identity of the owner of the suspected human hand, the circumstances surrounding its possession, and what it was intended to be used for.
The statement added that efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspected members of the criminal gang, while the suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Olaiwola Fatai, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime and other criminal activities across the state.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to the police to help prevent crime and improve public safety.
