The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip and two accomplices in connection with the gruesome murder of a retired staff of Ogun State Television (OGTV), Olakitan Oyesiku and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.
The broadcaster was murdered in her residence at the Kobape area of Abeokuta, on Saturday.
According to the police, the lifeless body of Adetayo, the security guard attached to the residence, was found inside the security house, while Oyesiku was discovered in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.
The killer made away with Oyesiku’s vehicle after murdering her.
Speaking during a press briefing held at the Police Command’s headquarters in Eleweran on Thursday, Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, disclosed that Philips was a former guard of the victim.
The Commissioner said painstaking investigations, forensic analysis and technical tracking operations led to the arrest of all those allegedly involved in the double homicide.
He noted that subsequent operations led to the arrest of two other suspects, Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
He said “The tragic incident came to light on June 21, 2026, when officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a distress report regarding suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku’s residence.
“Intelligence gathering and technical tracking operations paid off when detectives traced and recovered the stolen vehicle on June 22. Although the suspects had removed the ignition key and detached the registration plates in an apparent attempt to conceal the vehicle’s identity, investigators recovered the number plate hidden beneath one of the seats, confirming it belonged to the deceased.
“One of the major breakthroughs in the case came from a handwritten note left behind at the crime scene. The note was subjected to forensic examination, providing crucial leads that ultimately helped detectives identify and track down the suspects’, Ojajuni added.
According to the Commissioner of Police, the suspect made a confessional statement in which he admitted recruiting the two accomplices and participating in the killing.
The suspect reportedly told investigators that he planned the attack because of grievances he harboured against Madam Oyesiku during his period of employment and wanted to “teach her a lesson.”
“The suspects carried out the attack on June 20, first overpowering Pelumi Adetayo and using him to gain access to the residence. They subsequently attacked and killed Madam Oyesiku before also murdering the security guard.
“After the killings, the suspects escaped with the deceased’s Lexus RX 330 vehicle, which was later recovered through intelligence-led operations in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
“Further searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other items believed to be connected to the crime.”
CP Ojajuni stressed that despite the confessional statements and evidence already obtained, the suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.
