Grief has gripped Ogun State’s media community after retired Ogun State Television staff member, Mrs. Kitan Oyesiku, popularly known as “Aunty Kitan,” was reportedly killed by gunmen at her home in the Kobape area of Abeokuta.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 21, 2026, according to family sources and neighbours. The news sent shockwaves through broadcasting circles and left residents of the once-peaceful community stunned.
Witnesses said unidentified assailants invaded Mrs. Oyesiku’s residence and carried out the fatal shooting before fleeing the scene. The motive for the attack remains unknown, and details surrounding the circumstances are still unclear.
Security concerns have heightened in Kobape since the incident. Residents expressed fear over rising insecurity and called on Ogun State Police Command and other law enforcement agencies to act swiftly to restore confidence.
Mrs. Oyesiku served for years at OGTV before retiring. Colleagues described her as a dedicated, warm, and professional broadcaster who earned the respect of viewers and coworkers alike. The nickname “Aunty Kitan” reflected the affection many had for her on and off air.
Tributes have continued to pour in from former colleagues, media practitioners, and residents. Many remembered her as kind-hearted, hardworking, and committed to using broadcasting to educate and uplift the public.
