The Ogun State Police Command and the Peace Initiative Committee (PIC) have agreed to work together to end cult-related violence in Ogun Central Senatorial District and its surrounding areas.
The agreement was reached on Monday, June 15, at the Ogun State Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta, during a meeting between the police and members of the Peace Initiative Committee (PIC).
The Peace Initiative Committee was reportedly invited by the Ogun State Police Command following the recent killing of Akeem whose popularly known as judgement, a former Eiye cult member allegedly known as the “ACM Number 1,” who was killed on June 8 in Obantoko, Abeokuta. Investigations are also ongoing into the killing of another victim known as “Stone,” who was killed some months ago.
According to the committee, members of the committee were invited by the police to discuss the rising cases of cult-related killings in the state capital.
Upon their arrival at the police headquarters, they were allegedly arrested and locked up in the cell for about three hours ,after discussions on the issue, following a directive from the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni. They were later released after interventions and appeals on their behalf.
After their release, the police and the committee continued discussions on how to tackle cultism and restore lasting peace in Ogun Central.
The Commissioner of Police reportedly directed members of the committee to sign an undertaking, stating that they would be held responsible if they failed to report any cult-related activities in the area.
The members of the Peace Initiative Committee signed the undertaking and submitted their details to the police. They also pledged full cooperation with security agencies in identifying and bringing to justice those responsible for the recent killings.
Both the Ogun State Police Command and the Peace Initiative Committee reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure that those involved in cult-related crimes are arrested and prosecuted, while also preventing further violence in Ogun Central.
