The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ogun state has unveiled Mrs Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun as the deputy governorship candidate of the party ahead of 2027 elections.
Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun is the daughter of billionaire industrialist Alhaji Adebola Adegunwa.
The 51-year old Chartered Accountant was unveiled at the party’s Caucus meeting held in Abeokuta the state capital on Sunday.
Adegunwa-Balogun currently serves as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Executive Director of Finance and Administration at Rite Foods Limited, one of Nigeria’s leading food and beverage manufacturing companies.
She hails from Ososa in Ogun East Senatorial District.
Speaking at the event, the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, commended party members and leaders for their support and commitment to the progress of the party.
He said the party was able to produce 39 representatives who will be contesting elective positions in the state out of more than 700 contestants without rancour.
The governor said, “If the government is coming from the West, we felt that for equity and fairness, the government should come from the East. So, we now sat and looked across the local governments in Ogun East and we consulted across that constituency.
“Yes, we’ve accepted. But until this august body ratifies that, we cannot consider it as something that has been formally accepted by the party and the state. So we thought we must bring, in the same fashion that we brought the governorship candidate here..
“So today, it gives me great pleasure to announce to us who our deputy governor will be by the grace of God. So today, we have amongst us Mrs. Kudirat Abiodun Adegunwa-Balogun and by the grace of God, Mrs. Manobu will be our deputy governor.”
The All Progressives Congress Governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, said he believes in the capacity and competency of his running mate based on her track record, rich family heritage and qualities.
Yayi described her as a “disciplined, upright and experienced professional” who would join hands with him to consolidate on the achievements of Governor Abiodun in 2027.
He further added that the choice of his running mate was a product of painstaking decision after wide consultations with critical stakeholders across the state.
The unveiling of the deputy is coming barely two months after Senator Adeola was announced as the consensus governorship candidate and subsequently ratified through direct primary conducted across the 236 wards of the state.
Following a motion moved by Governor Abiodun for her adoption as the party’s deputy governorship candidate in the 2027 guber election in the state, Mrs. Adegunwa-Balogun was unanimously adopted through voice vote as the running mate of Yayi.
