President Bola Tinubu has paid tribute to Pastor William Kumuyi, founder and General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry, on his 85th birthday, describing him as a remarkable man of God whose faith and dedication have shaped one of Nigeria’s most influential Christian ministries for more than five decades.
In a statement issued Saturday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised Kumuyi’s global impact. He noted that the cleric’s voice, writings, and ministry have reached far beyond church walls, bringing hope and encouragement to millions across the world.
“As the convener of Global Crusade with Kumuyi, your voice has reached beyond the church walls and national borders,” Tinubu said. “Your writings have illuminated minds, inspired hearts, and provided timeless guidance to those seeking truth and purpose.”
The President also highlighted Kumuyi’s generational influence, saying his ministry has transformed lives, restored families, inspired leaders, and strengthened the faith of believers across Nigeria and abroad. He described the Deeper Life leader as a steady voice in an era of rapid social change.
Tinubu prayed for Kumuyi’s continued strength and vitality: “On this special day, I pray that Almighty God continues to grant you strength, divine health, peace, and abundant grace.”
Born on June 6, 1941, in Erin-Ijesha, Osun State, Kumuyi founded Deeper Life Bible Church in 1973 as a small campus fellowship at the University of Lagos, where he lectured in mathematics. From that modest beginning, the ministry has grown into one of Africa’s largest Pentecostal denominations.
Today, Deeper Christian Life Ministry operates congregations in over 150 countries. Kumuyi’s emphasis on strict doctrinal standards, evangelistic fervour, and personal discipline has earned him respect as one of African Christianity’s most consistent voices.
Known for his Bible teaching and global crusades, Kumuyi has mentored countless pastors, educators, and public figures. His books and sermons remain widely circulated, continuing to shape theological discourse and personal devotion among believers.
As tributes pour in for his 85th year, Kumuyi’s legacy stands as a testament to sustained faith, disciplined leadership, and a ministry that has transcended borders while remaining rooted in scripture.
