The Ogun State Government has dismissed claims circulating online that Fulani herdsmen, Boko Haram insurgents, and other terrorist groups are planning to invade the state. Officials described the reports as false and lacking any credible basis.
Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, said security intelligence shows Ogun remains safe. He urged residents to disregard the misinformation and avoid spreading panic.
Akinmade expressed concern over rumours suggesting an imminent invasion by killer herders, fleeing Boko Haram fighters, and other criminal elements. He maintained that no evidence supports such claims within Ogun borders.
Security agencies across the state are fully alert, according to the statement, and have taken measures to prevent any disruption of public order. Operatives are closely monitoring developments and are ready to respond to any threat.
The government accused certain individuals of using security challenges in other parts of the country to create fear in Ogun. Akinmade called the act irresponsible and warned that it could cause unnecessary anxiety among residents.
To address the spread of falsehood, Akinmade disclosed that some persons linked to the viral reports have been arrested and are facing prosecution. He said the action should serve as a deterrent to others who may seek to spread misinformation or incite chaos.
The statement noted strong collaboration among security agencies, local authorities, traditional rulers, and community stakeholders. This synergy, it said, has improved intelligence gathering and response capacity across the state.
Authorities are also refining security strategies tailored to Ogun’s needs. The approach includes closer coordination between conventional security forces and traditional structures at the grassroots to strengthen information sharing and early warning systems.
Akinmade reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
