The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Ogun State Sector Command, on Wednesday joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2026 World Bicycle Day with a cycling rally in Abeokuta.
The event was held in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Ogun State Branch, following a directive from the Corps Marshal to commemorate the annual United Nations event.
The rally was attended by the Ogun State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Oludare Ogunjobi, senior officers of the command, the State Coordinator of Special Marshals, officers and marshals of the corps, as well as members of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria.
Speaking during the event, Ogunjobi highlighted the many benefits of cycling. He said cycling helps people stay healthy and fit while also contributing to environmental sustainability by reducing carbon emissions.
The Sector Commander noted that World Bicycle Day is an opportunity to create awareness about the importance of cycling and encourage people to adopt bicycles as a simple, affordable, reliable and environmentally friendly means of transportation.
As part of the celebration, participants took part in a cycling rally led by the Sector Commander. The ride covered about five kilometres, starting from the FRSC Sector Command Headquarters to OPIC Roundabout and back.
The event ended peacefully without any security or safety incidents.
The FRSC Ogun Sector Command reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety, healthy living, environmental sustainability and safer mobility for all road users.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Route Commander Afolabi Odunsi, said the celebration was part of efforts to encourage healthier lifestyles and support sustainable transportation in the state.
