One hundred and two councillors from Ogun East Senatorial District have expressed their support for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s reported 2027 senatorial aspiration and President Bola Tinubu’s second-term bid.
The endorsement was made at a gathering in Itoro, Ijebu Ode, where the councillors cited Abiodun’s developmental strides and qualitative leadership as reasons for their support.
The Chairman of the Ogun State Councillors’ Forum, Hon Akindele Faseyi, stated that Abiodun’s administration has transformed the state in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, economic development, and security.
The councillors believe Abiodun’s experience in governance makes him well-positioned to represent Ogun East at the National Assembly.
According to Faseyi, “We have observed the transformative leadership of His Excellency over the last seven years. His ‘Building Our Future Together’ agenda has impacted positively across Ogun East.” The councillors assured Abiodun of their readiness to mobilise support for his aspiration and his possible emergence as the candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
The member representing Ijebu Federal Constituency, Femi Ogunbanwo, also supported the councillors’ position, describing Abiodun as a committed democrat. Ogunbanwo said Abiodun’s achievements are unparalleled and commended the councillors for taking the right decision.
The lawmaker moved a motion endorsing Tinubu’s re-election bid, which was unanimously supported by the councillors. However, Abiodun has yet to officially declare his intention to contest for the Ogun East senatorial seat currently occupied by Senator Gbenga Daniel.
The councillors’ endorsement is seen as a boost to Abiodun’s senatorial ambitions and Tinubu’s re-election bid. The event was attended by several dignitaries, including local government chairmen and APC members.
The development comes as the APC prepares for the 2027 general elections, with several politicians jostling for positions. Abiodun’s senatorial bid is expected to be a closely contested race.
The councillors’ support for Abiodun and Tinubu reflects the party’s strength in Ogun State and its commitment to delivering on its campaign promises. The outcome of the 2027 elections remains uncertain, but the APC is determined to emerge victorious.
