The Ogun State Government has inducted newly recruited officers into its civil/public service, as part of efforts to strengthen workforce capacity and enhance efficient service delivery across ministries, departments, and agencies. The induction was held at the Obas Complex at the state secretariat, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.
Speaking at the induction, the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, said the recruitment of new officers into the basic grade levels of the civil service reflected the government’s commitment to building a strong and efficient workforce capable of driving its developmental agenda. Onasanya stressed that an effective workforce was critical to achieving the objectives of the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Onasanya explained that the induction programme was designed to integrate the new entrants into the service, equip them with the necessary knowledge, and prepare them for effective performance in their respective roles. He reiterated the government’s commitment to developing a competent and ethically grounded workforce guided by established rules, regulations, and operational procedures.
The Head of Service urged the participants to uphold the core values of the civil service, including integrity, accountability, transparency, diligence, discipline, and respect for due process. He added that the civil service remained the engine room of government, stressing that its effectiveness depended largely on the quality and commitment of its workforce.
In her welcome address, the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Establishments and Training, Lydia Fajounbo, said the orientation programme became necessary following observations that many recruits lacked adequate knowledge of the core values and expectations of the civil service. She said the programme would provide participants with the skills and tools needed to succeed.
Fajounbo added that the induction marked the beginning of the participants’ career journey and urged them to build a solid foundation for future growth. The permanent secretaries in the Bureaux of Public Service Reforms, Jola Oyeneye; State Pensions, Arinola Adetayo; and Local Government Pensions, Olufisan Osiyale, encouraged the participants to take advantage of the training.
They described the programme as an opportunity to learn from experienced professionals and urged the new officers to develop good character, foster teamwork, build relationships, and maintain transparency in their duties. The induction is expected to enhance the capacity of the new officers to deliver quality services to the people of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Government’s efforts to strengthen its workforce are expected to improve public service delivery and contribute to the state’s development. The government is committed to creating a conducive work environment and providing opportunities for growth and development.
