The Permanent Secretary of the Ogun State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs. Jokotoye Oluwatoyin, has emphasised the critical role of farmers in national development, describing them as next in importance after God because of their role in ensuring food security and sustaining life.
Mrs. Oluwatoyin made this known while receiving members of the Nigeria Agriculture Cooperative Organization (NACO) during a courtesy visit to her office at the State Secretariat, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, ahead of her retirement from service.
She expressed appreciation to the delegation for their show of love, prayers, and gifts, noting that although her relationship with the group had not spanned many years, it had been cordial and impactful.
The Permanent Secretary also commended NACO for its contributions to agricultural development, stating that their efforts are recognised by both the Ogun State Government and the Federal Government of Nigeria. She urged the group to remain committed to their work and not relent despite prevailing challenges in the country.
Earlier in his remarks, the Ogun State Coordinator of NACO, Pastor Adetunji Abogunrin, said the visit was organised to honour the Permanent Secretary despite receiving late information about her retirement.
He described her as a woman of integrity and compassion who has consistently supported farmers and agricultural cooperatives in the state.
“We had to make it a point of duty to visit her, appreciate her contributions, and pray for her before she exits office. She has been a strong pillar for NACO and farmers in Ogun State,” Abogunrin said.
Also speaking, the State Treasurer of NACO, Rev. Mafimidiwo Mosadi, thanked Mrs. Oluwatoyin for granting the delegation audience, noting that the visit would not have been possible without her approval.
He revealed that plans are underway to integrate her into the cooperative at her local government level after retirement, so she can continue contributing her wealth of experience to the growth of the organisation.
“As she retires, we look forward to having her join NACO fully. Her knowledge and experience will greatly benefit the cooperative and its members,” he said, while offering prayers for her continued success.
Other officials present during the visit included the Director of Veterinary Services, Dr. Jolaoso Taiwo Oluwole; Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Alhaji Fashola Suraju; Deputy Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Alhaji Ibrahim Bushi Alao; and Assistant Director, Planning, Research and Statistics/Head of Agribusiness, Mrs. Gloria Ojikutu.
