Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has urged Nigerians to take the 2027 general elections seriously, emphasizing the need for active participation and voter registration. Kwankwaso made the call during his reception into the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kano.
Kwankwaso, who recently resigned from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), called on his supporters to obtain their ADC membership cards and INEC voters’ cards, describing them as essential for exercising their democratic rights. “The 2027 general elections is a special one. We must attach all levels of seriousness to it,” he said.
The reception drew prominent national figures, including ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark, 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former APC National Chairman John Odigie-Oyegun. Other dignitaries in attendance included former Minister of Interior Rauf Aregbesola and former Speaker of the House of Representatives Aminu Tambuwal.
Kwankwaso’s message highlighted the importance of political engagement and unity as Nigeria approaches the 2027 polls, signaling a renewed drive for opposition mobilization. He expressed appreciation to the leadership and members of the NNPP for their support during his time in the party.
The former governor’s resignation from the NNPP was reportedly due to a “strategic realignment” in response to the evolving political landscape in the country. Kwankwaso’s move has sparked interest in the country’s opposition politics, with many speculating about potential alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.
