Iran launched a new missile attack on Israel, with sirens blounding in Jerusalem as the Israeli military warned of incoming missile fire. The army identified that “missiles were launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel”.
Israel’s Magen David Adom emergency medical service said after the first warning that there were no immediate reports of casualties.
The Israeli military said personnel were attending “impact sites” in central Israel, with local media showing images of light damage by a road in the city of Holon near Tel Aviv.
This latest attack comes after Iranian missiles struck two towns in southern Israel on Saturday evening, injuring over 100 people. The Soroka medical centre said it had received and treated 175 people, with 10 in serious condition, including at least one child.
The blasts in Dimona and Arad tore open residential buildings and gouged craters in the ground. Iranian state TV said the strike in Dimona, which houses a nuclear facility, was in response to an earlier strike on its own Natanz nuclear site.
The Israeli military is investigating how air defence systems failed to intercept the incoming missiles.
US President Donald Trump has given Iran a 48-hour ultimatum to open the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the US would “obliterate” Iranian power plants if it doesn’t comply. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway for global oil supplies, and the conflict has led to rising tensions in the region.
Israel has threatened to increase attacks on Iran, while the Iranian military has vowed to retaliate against US and Israeli energy infrastructure if attacked.
The situation remains volatile, with reports of explosions and missile strikes in various parts of Israel. The international community is calling for calm and restraint. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to continue striking Iran, saying “this is a very difficult evening in the battle for our future”. The Iranian military has warned that any attack on its infrastructure will be met with retaliation.
The conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with over 1,500 people killed in Iran and dozens injured in Israel. The world is watching as the situation unfolds, with many concerned about the potential for further escalation.
