The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Wuse Ward in Abuja has suspended Senator Ireti Kingibe indefinitely over alleged anti-party activities, insubordination, and violation of party rules.
The decision was announced by Ward Chairman Kanayo Chukwu during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by party executives and members.
The suspension followed a general meeting of the ward held on March 10, 2026, where members deliberated on several allegations against the senator, including confiscation of the ward register, running a parallel membership registration process, persistent absence from ward meetings, failure to pay statutory party dues, and acts considered insubordinate to party leadership.
The allegations against Kingibe have sparked a heated debate within the party, with some members questioning the legitimacy of the suspension. The ADC national leadership has distanced itself from the suspension, with National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi describing reports of the suspension as “false and misleading”.
Abdullahi stated that the party was unaware of any suspension and urged the public and media to disregard the reports.
The FCT chairman of the party, Clement Ehijiator, confirmed receipt of the report and stated that it would be examined in accordance with the party’s constitution before being forwarded to the national leadership.
The suspension has raised questions about the internal dynamics of the ADC and the future of Kingibe’s membership in the party. The senator has yet to comment publicly on the matter.
The ADC has filed a lawsuit against Kingibe, seeking a court order to restrain her from presenting herself as a member of the party.
The suit is pending before the Federal High Court in Abuja. The outcome of the lawsuit is uncertain, but it is likely to have significant implications for the party’s internal politics and Kingibe’s political career. The ADC’s internal conflicts are likely to continue, with different factions vying for control of the party.
The party’s leadership will need to navigate these challenges carefully to maintain unity and stability within the party.
