The Delta State Police Command has intensified its crime-fighting operations, recovering six locally made firearms, four live cartridges, and large quantities of hard drugs, including cannabis, kolos, ice, and loud. The operation, led by Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola, has also resulted in the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and firearm fabricator.
In a daring raid, operatives of the Raiders Squad, led by SP Akanya Agbogha, swooped on a suspected firearm manufacturing depot in Emuhu Community, Ika South Local Government Area, arresting 59-year-old Friday Ojei.
The team recovered four locally fabricated guns, a welding machine, a drilling machine, a grinding machine, and assorted metal pipes suspected to be used in the fabrication of firearms.
In a separate operation, a combined patrol team comprising police operatives, police raiders, volunteers, and hunters recovered a locally made gun along Film Hall Road, Ovwian-Aladja.
The team had been conducting routine stop-and-search operations when they spotted a group of suspected hoodlums, who fled, abandoning the gun.
The police also arrested Esther Etafo, a 43-year-old suspected drug dealer, at her hideout on Oruworowh Road, Udu. The operation, led by the Divisional Crime Officer, recovered various quantities of suspected hard drugs, including cannabis, kolos, ice, and loud, as well as three blenders and ₦55,000 in cash.
The Commissioner of Police, Aina Adesola, commended the operatives involved in the operations, urging the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
The recovered firearms and drugs are a significant blow to criminal elements in the state, and the police are determined to rid Delta State of such activities.
The suspect, Friday Ojei, is currently in custody, and investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the illegal firearm production network.
