A 15-year-old boy, Gobri Yusuf, has been arrested by the Kwara State Police Command for allegedly killing his aunt, Akanbi A., who had adopted and raised him, in a shocking and brutal incident.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this on Friday during a press briefing at the Force headquarters in Ilorin, saying the suspect was arrested following a distress report received by the police concerning the discovery of the woman in a pool of blood at her residence.
According to Ojo, preliminary findings revealed that the suspect, who was residing with the deceased, allegedly concealed himself behind a door and attacked the victim while she was bathing using household items, including a frying pan, a weighing scale, a kitchen turning stick, and kitchen knives.
The police commissioner explained that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, saying the act was driven by resentment towards the deceased, and disclosed that previous attempts to poison the deceased had failed. This has raised concerns about the boy’s mental state and the circumstances leading up to the tragic event.
Ojo stated that after allegedly committing the crime, the suspect changed his clothes and left the residence under the pretext of running an errand, later contacting the deceased’s husband, who subsequently discovered her lifeless body. The suspect’s calm demeanor after the incident has left many wondering about his state of mind.
The suspect remains in police custody while the investigation continues, with the motive behind the killing still unclear. The Kwara State Police Command has assured the public that it will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is served in this case.
The case has sparked widespread concern and outrage, highlighting the need for addressing underlying issues that may lead to such tragic incidents, particularly among juveniles. The community is still grappling with the shock of the brutal killing, and many are calling for justice for the victim and her family.
