The US military has confirmed three service members were killed and five seriously wounded in Operation Epic Fury, a joint US-Israeli military operation targeting Iran. The operation aimed to destroy Iran’s military capacity, with US air and naval forces, along with Israel’s military, heavily bombarding the country.
The casualties were announced by US Central Command (CENTCOM), which stated several others sustained minor injuries and are being returned to duty. The identities of the fallen warriors will be withheld until 24 hours after next of kin have been notified.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed to have struck the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln in the Gulf with four ballistic missiles, but CENTCOM denied this, saying the missiles didn’t come close.
The operation has sparked reactions from world leaders, with President Donald Trump stating the goal is to eliminate threats from the Iranian regime. Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, expressed his heartbreak over the casualties, calling for Congress to act to restrain the president.
Ambassador Mike Waltz, Trump’s ambassador to the UN, posted on social media, “Freedom is never free.” The situation is fluid, and major combat operations continue.
The US and Israeli forces are engaged in intense conflict with Iran, with reports of massive bombardments and missile strikes. Iran has fired missiles at targets in Israel and US military facilities around the region.
