Troops of the 32 Artillery Brigade have neutralised two suspected armed terrorists and recovered weapons during a tactical operation in Ondo State.
The operation, carried out by soldiers from the Forward Operating Base Auga, took place along the Akunu–Auga Road on February 14, 2026, following credible human intelligence on criminal movement in the area.
According to a statement signed by Major Irabor Njoka, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, the troops swiftly mobilised and intercepted the suspects, leading to a firefight. The army’s superior firepower resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists, while others fled with suspected gunshot wounds.
The operation was conducted in conjunction with personnel from the Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) and local vigilantes, highlighting inter-agency cooperation in tackling insecurity. Items recovered from the scene included one AK-47 rifle with two magazines, 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile handsets, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and ₦39,000 cash, among other personal effects.
The Brigade emphasized that the operation underscores the Nigerian Army’s resolve to deny criminal elements freedom of action and movement, and to protect lives and property across Ondo State. It added that troops will sustain clearance and exploitation operations, intensify patrols along identified criminal corridors, and strengthen collaboration with other security agencies and local stakeholders.
The Army urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information, noting that public cooperation remains critical to efforts to rid the state of criminal elements. This incident comes amid a broader surge in security operations across Nigeria, with security forces intensifying efforts to tackle various forms of criminality.
The Ondo State Security Network Agency (Amotekun Corps) recently arrested no fewer than 95 suspected criminals across the 18 local government areas of the state for various offences, including kidnapping, stealing, burglary, and illegal mining.
The successful operation in Ondo State reflects the ongoing commitment of security agencies to combat terrorism and other forms of criminality, ensuring safety and security for residents. It also demonstrates the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations and inter-agency collaboration in achieving security objectives.
