At a strategic All Progressives Congress stakeholders’ meeting held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun presided over a gathering of party heavyweights, including former Governor Olusegun Osoba, former deputy governors, ministers, and members of the National and State Assemblies. Notably absent were Senator Gbenga Daniel and former Governor Ibikunle Amosun.
Abiodun opened the session by lauding President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as “bold decisions that rescued Nigeria from economic collapse and placed the country on the path of sustainable growth.” He emphasized that these reforms—removal of fuel subsidy and unification of foreign exchange rates—deserve continuity beyond 2027.
The governor highlighted tangible results of Tinubu’s policies: improved fuel availability, moderating inflation, a stabilising naira, growing investor confidence, and foreign reserves now at about $45 billion. He also pointed to major infrastructure projects such as the 700‑kilometre coastal highway and the 1,000‑kilometre Sokoto–Badagry superhighway, noting that Ogun State is seeing a surge in new factories.
Calling for party unity, Abiodun said, “The strength of the APC has always been anchored on unity and fairness. A united APC is an unbeatable APC.” He pledged to oversee a peaceful transition at the end of his tenure in May 2027 and announced plans to build a new APC secretariat in the state within six months.
Reflecting on his own administration, Abiodun cited achievements in housing (over 7,000 units), healthcare, job creation, and youth empowerment, and noted that NNPC’s commercial oil drilling in Ogun Waterside has lifted the state’s GDP to N17 trillion.
Former Governor Osoba echoed Abiodun’s praise for Tinubu’s courageous reforms, urging governors to ensure the benefits reach grassroots communities and stressing that the president’s leadership is not a move toward a one‑party state.
The meeting underscored Governor Abiodun’s pivotal role in rallying APC support for Tinubu’s re‑election while showcasing Ogun’s developmental strides under his leadership.
