The Anambra State Police Command has arrested three men for unlawful possession of firearms and involvement in illicit drug activities. The suspects, identified as 39‑year‑old motel owner Ifeanyi Ibeabuchi, 26‑year‑old Abdullahi Shaibu, and 18‑year‑old Obah Chima, were taken into custody on Monday at a motel in Uke, Idemili North Local Government Area.
According to a press statement released on Thursday by command spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga, operatives of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acted on credible intelligence and stormed the motel in the late hours of February 9, 2026. The operation led to the immediate apprehension of the three individuals.
During the search of the premises, police recovered a Jojef pump‑action gun bearing breach number 21SA‑0724, loaded with three live cartridges. The weapon was found in plain view, confirming the suspects’ possession of illegal firearms.
Ibeabuchi, who confessed to the crime, provided information that enabled investigators to locate and seize additional contraband. Authorities recovered substances suspected to be cannabis sativa, crystal methamphetamine, colos, and mkpuru‑mmiri, indicating a broader network of drug distribution.
SP Ikenga emphasized that the command remains committed to sustaining operations against criminal elements in the state. He urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid policing efforts and enhance community safety.
The police spokesperson added that investigations are ongoing and further developments will be communicated as they arise. He noted that the case will be processed in accordance with Nigerian law, with charges expected to be filed against the suspects.
This latest arrest follows a pattern of recent police actions in Anambra. In December 2025, the same command detained a 26‑year‑old armed robbery suspect, Ugochukwu Uzor, in Ogbaru LGA, recovering a locally made Beretta pistol and 11 live rounds of ammunition.
Residents of Uke and surrounding communities have expressed relief at the swift police response, highlighting the importance of intelligence‑led operations in curbing gun‑related crimes and drug trafficking. Community leaders have called for continued vigilance and cooperation with law enforcement.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its resolve to rid the state of illegal weapons and narcotics, warning that anyone found engaging in such activities will face the full weight of the law.
