The Bayelsa State Police Command has arrested two suspects, including a pastor, over an alleged plot to kill a prominent prophet in the state. The arrest has sent shockwaves through the community, with many calling for swift justice.
The suspects, Samuel Daniel, 21, and Pastor Elijah Oro, 59, were arrested on January 28, 2026, by operatives of the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Unit, following a tip-off from a concerned citizen.
According to preliminary investigations, Samuel Daniel, a member of the Greenlanders Confraternity, was hired by Pastor Elijah Oro to assassinate the prophet.6 million to carry out the hit. Daniel was arrested at the prophet’s premises, where he had been keeping watch, and has confessed to the crime, revealing that he was paid a deposit of N1 million.
The police are investigating the motive behind the alleged plot, and more arrests are expected as the investigation unfolds. “We are leaving no stone unturned in our quest to unravel the truth behind this heinous plot,” said DSP Musa Mohammed Anipr, Police Public Relations Officer.
The Bayelsa State Police Command has assured the public of its commitment to protecting lives and property, and urged citizens to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information. “We are working tirelessly to ensure that justice is served,” Anipr added.
The command also warned members of the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities, as the police continue to crack down on criminal elements in the state.
The arrested suspects are currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing. If convicted, they face serious jail time for their alleged roles in the plot.
The police have not revealed the name of the prophet, citing security reasons, but sources close to the matter say the clerman is a prominent figure in the state’s spiritual circles.
The incident has sparked a heated debate about the safety of spiritual leaders in the state, with many calling for increased security measures to protect them.
