In a commendable initiative to promote emergency preparedness and showcase its capabilities, the Ogun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (OGSEMSAS), under the Ministry of Health in Ogun State, recently paid a courtesy visit to Splash FM Radio station 106.7 FM in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where they featured on the popular Oju Abe programme. The visit was a resounding success, with the OGSEMSAS team led by Director Dr. Hassan Adelakun, leaving no stone unturned in educating the public about its life-saving services.
The OGSEMSAS delegation took to the airwaves to emphasize the paramount importance of emergency preparedness and the need for citizens to utilize its services in times of crisis. Dr. Adelakun highlighted the organization’s impressive track record, revealing that OGSEMSAS attended to 451 road traffic accidents involving 1,191 victims in 2025 alone, a testament to its unwavering commitment to saving lives and mitigating the impact of emergencies.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Adelakun expressed disappointment at malicious statements suggesting that Ogun State lacks ambulances, stressing that the present administration has significantly bolstered the fleet with the acquisition of 20 new ambulances, in addition to the six inherited. He also showcased the expertise of OGSEMSAS staff, comprising doctors, nurses, paramedics, and other specialists trained to respond to emergency situations with modern equipment, including Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
The Director urged the public to take advantage of OGSEMSAS’ services, especially during emergencies, and provided the emergency contact number, 0811 200 0033, encouraging citizens to dial in and avail themselves of the organization’s life-saving capabilities. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with stakeholders, including traditional leaders, government officials, and security agencies, to ensure a coordinated response to emergencies.
The OGSEMSAS team, which included Dr. Oyenekan Abiodun Olorunsogo, Deputy Director and Head of Operations; Adesakin Adefemi, Head of Media and Publicity; Owolabi Veronica, Media; and Gbenga Olakunle, Media and Publicity Unit, received a warm welcome from the Splash FM team, led by Ayomide Adetunji, popularly known as Mr. Quality, on the Oju Abe programme.
The discussion, which focused on promoting emergency preparedness and encouraging citizens to utilize OGSEMSAS’ services, was engaging and informative, with listeners calling in to seek clarification and express appreciation for the organization’s efforts. OGSEMSAS is committed to reducing mortality rates in Ogun State through its Rural Emergency Services and Maternal Transport (RESMAT) programme, which targets rural areas, and the public is encouraged to take advantage of its services and contact the emergency number, 0811 200 0033, in times of need.
The visit has sparked renewed interest in OGSEMSAS’ services, with many citizens expressing gratitude for the organization’s efforts to promote emergency preparedness.
