The Ogun State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (OGSEMSAS), under the Ministry of Health, Ogun State, responded to an accident on January 26, 2026, on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway long bridge, causing a slowdown.
The accident occurred at approximately 7:45 am, just as commuters were heading to work, and involved multiple vehicles, including a bus, a truck, and several cars.
The prompt arrival of the OGSEMSAS ambulance ensured timely medical attention to those injured, and the team worked tirelessly to stabilize the patients and transport them to nearby hospitals for further treatment.
The accident victims, including a pregnant woman and several children, were treated for minor injuries and are currently receiving medical attention.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred during peak hour, and the quick response of the ambulance team averted a potential disaster. “I was on my way to work when I saw the accident. The ambulance arrived within 10 minutes, and they were very professional,” said an eyewitness. “They quickly assessed the situation and started treating the victims. It was amazing to see.”
The Ogun was working to enhance its emergency medical response services, collaborating with the National Emergency Medical Service and Ambulance System (NEMSAS) to improve response times and provide better care.
This partnership aims to reduce maternal mortality rates and increase residents’ longevity. “We are committed to providing quality emergency medical services to the people of Ogun State,” said Dr. Hassan Adelakun, Director of OGSEMSAS.
The state government has also invested in deploying 26 Basic Life Support (BLS) vehicles across the state, with 16 public ambulance points ensuring 24-hour coverage. This has significantly improved emergency response times, with an average response time of just 15 minutes.

The OGSEMSAS has also launched a new initiative to train more emergency responders and equip them with the latest technology. This is expected to further improve response times and save more lives. “We are working hard to ensure that our emergency services are among the best in the country,” said Dr. Adelakun.
The people of Ogun State are praising the government’s efforts to improve emergency services. “The ambulance team is doing a great job. They arrived quickly and saved lives,” said a resident. “We are grateful for their dedication and commitment to our safety.”
