The Oyo State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in its efforts to curb insecurity in the state, intercepting a truck loaded with materials suspected to be explosive devices during a stop-and-search operation in Saki.
The operation, which was conducted on Saturday, was intelligence-led and described as an “operational success” by authorities. The truck and its contents have been secured and are currently in police custody, with the driver arrested and cooperating fully with investigators.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, specialized teams, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit and the Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit, have been deployed to manage and examine the items safely.
A comprehensive forensic analysis has already begun, with an extensive investigation underway to identify the exact nature of the items and their intended use. The Commissioner of Police, CP Femi Haruna, has ordered a thorough investigation, and the police are working to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The Police Command has acknowledged the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for his support and strategic leadership, reassuring the public of their dedication to protecting lives and property.
The incident has sparked concern among residents, but the police are urging citizens to remain calm, emphasizing that there is no need for panic. The Command has pledged to provide updates as the investigation unfolds.
This latest development is a testament to the police’s commitment to keeping Oyo State safe, coming on the heels of similar security operations in Kano State, where police recently intercepted suspected explosive materials and illegal drugs.
