The Ogun State Police Command has assured the Peace Initiative Committee (PIC), a non-profit group working to curb cultism in the state, of its full support across Ogun State.
Members of the Peace Initiative Committee, who on Tuesday visited the Police Command Headquarters at Eleweran, Abeokuta, revealed that The visit was to welcome the new Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, introduce the association to him, and discuss ways to work together to improve security in the state.
During the meeting, DSP Oluseyi thanked the group for the visit and assured them that he and the entire Ogun State Police Command are ready to work with PIC to fight crime and promote peace in the state.
He also revealed that the police headquarters in Abuja has directed the Ogun State Command to set up a special team to campaign against cultism and other social vices. He said the team is already being put together and that PIC will be linked with the team.
According to him, PIC will take part in sensitisation programmes, sanitation exercises, and press activities.
After the meeting with the PPRO, the committee also met with the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo who gave them useful advice on how to achieve their goals. He assured them of his full support and the support of the entire Ogun State Police Command.
Also, the PIC visited the office of CSP Daramola Sunday. They discussed a recent peace intervention carried out in Ifo, Itori, and Ewekoro Local Government Areas, where the committee helped settle a fight between two cult members and preached peace. CSP Daramola commended their efforts and offered strategies to guide their future activities.
The committee also visited the Ogun State Secretary of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN), Abdul Kabir Akigbade, popularly known as Boliroshi, at Obantoko. They informed him about their upcoming one-year anniversary, and he advised them to always address problems from the root to prevent future reoccurrence.
In addition, PIC visited the Commissioner for Teaching Service Commission, Hon. Majekodunmi Olanrewaju. He advised the group on effective ways to curb cultism and encouraged them to maintain trust, unity, confidentiality, and love among themselves.
The Chairman of the Peace Initiative Committee, Comrade Akoko Akeem, appreciated all the individuals and offices visited for their support and guidance during the outing.
