The Nigeria Police Force has announced a significant achievement in implementing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive to withdraw police personnel from VIP escort duties, marking a major shift towards refocusing police resources on critical security needs.
In a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Force Headquarters constituted a special enforcement team to ensure adherence to the presidential order. “On 6th December 2025, the enforcement team carried out an extensive monitoring exercise across key locations in Lagos State, including the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge, the Domestic Wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, and several other strategic points in the state,” CSP Hundeyin said.
The monitoring exercise revealed a satisfactory and commendable level of compliance by police officers, with no instances of unauthorized deployment of police personnel for VIP escort duties recorded during the exercise.
Consequently, no arrests were made, underscoring the Force’s commitment to a smooth implementation of the directive.
The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, reiterates the Force’s commitment to implementing the directive, emphasizing the need for police personnel to focus on core policing duties.
The Nigeria Police Force is redeploying personnel to enhance security, crime prevention, and protection of lives and property across the country.
“The Force remains resolute in enforcing this policy nationwide without fear or favor,” CSP Hundeyin stated. Members of the public are assured of the Police Force’s dedication to a more professional, efficient, and citizen-centered policing system.
