A former Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has issued a categorical denial of a malicious publication circulating online, alleging that he resigned from his position due to disagreements with the government over its handling of security issues.
In a statement released on December 3, 2025, Abubakar described the publication as “false, deliberately mischievous, and baseless,” emphasizing that it did not originate from him or any authorized representative acting on his behalf.
The statement alleged that the intent behind the fabrication was to tarnish Abubakar’s reputation, sow discord between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and create distractions from the government’s work.
Abubakar clarified that the true reasons for his resignation were formally communicated to President Tinubu and made public through conventional and social media platforms.
He emphasized that any suggestion of an alternative or inflammatory motive for his resignation was a complete falsehood engineered by mischief makers.
Abubakar reaffirmed his loyalty to President Tinubu and his commitment to the peace, security, and stability of Nigeria, stating that his support for the Renewed Hope Agenda remained intact.
He also expressed his dedication to the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly as the party approaches the 2027 general elections.
Abubakar’s denial comes amid speculation about the reasons behind his resignation as Defence Minister, and his statement is expected to put to rest the controversy surrounding his departure from office.
