The Nigeria for Women Programme Scale-Up (NFWP-SU) has stepped up its mobilisation efforts in Ogun State, calling for stronger support from traditional rulers and market women in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.
The programme, which aims to empower at least 105,000 women across the state, took its sensitisation campaign to Lusada International Market and several traditional institutions in the area.
During a courtesy visit to the Palace of the Onigboko of Orile-Igboko Igbesa, the Project Coordinator, Mrs. Bolanle Fadairo, explained that the programme is designed to strengthen women’s economic power through financial literacy, access to markets, use of technology, and organised group structures.
She stressed that NFWP-SU is not political, and its focus is on building long-term capacity for women, not giving one-off handouts.
Fadairo encouraged market women to organise themselves into active groups so they can fully benefit from the five-year programme aimed at helping women move from economic hardship to financial independence.
According to her, women in other participating zones have already seen improvements in their income, savings, and business growth, proving that the programme works when communities support it.
The Onigboko of Orile-Igboko Igbesa, Oba Itu Yusuf Olasukanmi, and the Olodan of Oda, Odan-Abuja, Oba Nosiru Teslimi Ayinla, praised the initiative and assured full support from their communities. They also commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for focusing on women’s development.
They promised to help mobilise community leaders, market leaders, and youths to ensure the success of the programme in the area, describing it as a major opportunity for women’s economic freedom.
The sensitisation team later moved to Lusada International Market, where traders welcomed the initiative and expressed readiness to take part in the empowerment programme.
