Lafarge Africa Plc, a member of the Huaxin Group and one of Nigeria’s leading building solutions companies, has reaffirmed its commitment to education and community development with the comprehensive renovation of the Christian Pelamourges Memorial Baptist Day Nursery and Primary School in Agbesi, Ewekoro, Ogun State.
The project, executed under the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, delivered an extensive upgrade of the school’s infrastructure. The renovation included the refurbishment of five classroom blocks, extension of the Head Teacher’s office, and the construction of new dining and toilet facilities.
Additional works covered new roofing, electrical and plumbing upgrades, plastering, tiling, and painting across all classroom blocks.
To enhance the learning environment, Lafarge also provided new desks, chairs, library shelves, and dining furniture.
A fully equipped playground and football field were installed for the benefit of pupils and staff, ensuring a more holistic educational experience.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, Group Managing Director/CEO of Lafarge Africa Plc, said the project underscores the company’s dedication to improving educational standards in Nigeria.

Also present at the ceremony, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Abayomi Arigbabu, applauded the project, noting that it aligns with the state’s ongoing school rehabilitation agenda.
“The Ogun State government, under Governor Dapo Abiodun, is intentional about restoring and strengthening educational infrastructure. We cannot do this alone. We appreciate Lafarge for this global-standard facility, which supports our development pillars. I encourage more organisations to emulate this commitment,” Arigbabu stated.
The Chairman of the Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Evangelist Joshua Ifede, also commended Lafarge for contributing meaningfully to the future of children in the state.
“Lafarge has shown that corporate social responsibility can indeed be a noble assignment. This upgrade will enhance teaching, boost pupil engagement, and motivate our teachers,” he said.
The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Ayoola Oluwaseunayo, described the transformation as a life-changing intervention that will shape learning for generations. Grateful pupils celebrated the commissioning with a special appreciation song dedicated to Lafarge Africa.
As part of the event, Lafarge Africa donated 2,000 Mathematics textbooks to the Ogun State Government to support students preparing for the Senior School Certificate Examination.
