The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has issued a firm and unequivocal disclaimer, rejecting the purported claims of Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja to be the party’s National Secretary. In an official statement dated November 26, 2025, the NWC categorically affirmed Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu as the legitimate National Secretary, condemning Arapaja’s actions as “regrettable, disdainful, and a gross misrepresentation.”
The controversy stems from a malicious letter dated November 19, 2025, authored by Arapaja and submitted to the Honourable Chief Judge of the Federal High Court.
In it, he falsely paraded himself as PDP’s National Secretary, attempting to undermine the integrity of certain judges handling party-related matters, without legitimate authority. The NWC described this as a “deliberate affront to the party’s governance and a dangerous precedent.”
Ambassador Arapaja, the statement clarified, is not theq National Secretary of the PDP, nor does he hold the position of National Legal Adviser. “He lacks any legitimate authority to issue correspondence on behalf of the party,” the NWC emphasized, urging all stakeholders to treat his actions with the serious disapproval they deserve.
In a parallel disclaimer, Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu, the authentic National Secretary, reinforced the NWC’s stance. “This serves as a formal notice to disclaim Amb. Taofeek Arapaja, falsely parading as National Secretary,” Anyanwu declared.
He advised the public, government agencies (including INEC), and the judiciary to disregard any communication bearing Arapaja’s signature, stressing: “The true PDP National Secretary can be verified via the INEC portal.”
The PDP underscored that its internal affairs strictly adhere to the party’s Constitution, the Electoral Act, 2022, and Nigeria’s 1999 Constitution (as amended). “We reaffirm respect for the judiciary and the rule of law,” the statement read, condemning any attempt to coerce courts or legitimize illegality.
The party outlined clear directives:
1. Disregard entirely any communication from PDP purportedly signed by Amb. Arapaja.
2. Recognize only correspondence duly authorized and signed by Senator Samuel N. Anyanwu.
3. Verify the party’s leadership through the official INEC portal.
The NWC expressed disappointment that such “unfounded and reckless” actions risk destabilizing the party and eroding trust in its institutions. “We will take all necessary legal steps to protect PDP’s integrity,” it warned, urging members and supporters to remain steadfast.
Amb. Arapaja’s letter, the PDP noted, appears aimed at sowing confusion amid internal disputes. The party reassures Nigerians of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and lawful conduct as it pursues its mission to offer credible opposition and reclaim governance.
The PDP remains united, focused on strengthening democracy and delivering for Nigeria. “This too shall pass,” the statement concluded, calling for calm while affirming Senator Anyanwu’s leadership.
