The Ogun State Police Command has deployed tactical squads to the Ajebo community to quell fears of an imminent attack by herdsmen, following a viral social media video alleging a planned assault. The police operation, led by Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo, revealed that Fulani settlers in the area are peaceful, long-standing residents, not hostile migrants as claimed.
A joint security team, comprising police, Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, and local vigilante groups, was dispatched to assess the situation. The team conducted a sweep of the area, but found no evidence of arms or suspicious activities. Women and children were found in temporary shelters, while adult men were away trading in Oyo State.
The operation confirmed the existence of a decade-old RUGA settlement in the area, which has reportedly been in the location for over a decade. The police said the settlement was authorized by the traditional ruler, Oba Rueben Oluwole, who has been invited for clarification on the situation.
The Baale of Alapako has also been summoned for a meeting to discuss the situation. Authorities assure residents that the continued security presence is a precautionary measure, aimed at ensuring the safety and security of the community.
