The former Commissioner for Agriculture in Ogun State, Samson Odedina has reiterated that agriculture remains one of the most effective solutions to Nigeria’s challenges of unemployment, food insecurity, and foreign exchange scarcity.
Odedina urged Nigerian youths to embrace agriculture as a viable source of livelihood and a key driver of national growth and development.
He made the call on Thursday in Akure, the Ondo State capital, while speaking with reporters.
The former Provost of the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA), noted that with the right support systems and innovative approaches, young Nigerians can transform the agricultural sector and create sustainable wealth for themselves and their communities.
According to him, much of his success in public office was influenced by his long-standing experience as a private farmer, stressing that his agricultural ventures were self-financed long before he became commissioner.
“In 2007, I worked with certain international development projects and was paid an amount equivalent to 50 years’ salary at the time. With that money, I decided to acquire farmland in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and invest fully in agriculture,” he said.
