The Founder of One Love Family, Satguru Maharaj Ji, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential election, warning that his ambition could threaten national unity.
In a statement issued on Monday, Maharaj Ji said Atiku’s insistence on contesting the 2027 presidential election was “an act of political recklessness” and urged Northern political leaders to prevail on him to step down in the interest of peace and stability.
He cautioned that Atiku’s continuous pursuit of the presidency, despite the North having produced the immediate past president, was against the principle of fairness and power rotation between the North and South.
“The right and decent thing for the North to do is to honour the power shift agreement which they themselves helped to establish. Atiku’s desperation to become president has made him deaf to the voice of reason,” Maharaj Ji stated.
He further accused Northern political leaders of remaining silent while Atiku and other politicians from the region allegedly attempt to “rob the South” of its rightful eight-year tenure in the presidency.
Maharaj Ji urged elder statesmen such as Generals Ibrahim Babangida, Yakubu Gowon, and Abdulsalami Abubakar, as well as the Northern Elders Forum, to caution Atiku against pursuing what he described as “a selfish and destabilizing ambition.”
He emphasized that the South should be allowed to complete its two-term cycle in Aso Rock as the North did during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“What is good for the goose is good for the gander. The same support given to Buhari for eight years should now be extended to the South,” he said.
Maharaj Ji concluded by warning that Atiku should retire peacefully and avoid further attempts to contest, saying he has “benefited enough from Nigeria” and should allow the nation to move forward.
“Those who insist on testing the will of nature will meet the consequences of their actions,” he added.
