The Rotary Club of Obantoko, Abeokuta, Ogun State, yesterday hosted the District Governor, Rotarian Prince Henry Akinyele, during his official visitation to the club.
As part of the visit, the foundation-laying ceremony for three blocks of toilets was conducted at St. Michael Nursery and Primary School, Asalu Oyetola, Obantoko.
Speaking at the event, the President of the Rotary Club of Obantoko, Rotarian Iyabo Omotoke Ilesanmi (PHF), the club’s first female president, expressed delight at the successful visitation.
She appreciated the District Governor for traveling from Lagos to be part of the occasion and described the project as one that would promote hygiene, enhance the school’s learning environment, and support the well-being of pupils and teachers.
“We discovered that this school urgently needs toilet facilities and access to water. That is why we decided to provide them with toilets and a borehole, which will soon be commissioned,” she said.
Ilesanmi assured that more projects were underway during her tenure, noting that with the support of club members and stakeholders, the Rotary Club of Obantoko would continue to impact schools and communities positively.
She highlighted the club’s past interventions, including borehole installations, educational support, and health initiatives for the less privileged.
In his remarks, the District Governor, Rotarian Prince Henry Akinyele, commended Ilesanmi and her team for their dedication to service.
He reaffirmed Rotary’s commitment to uplifting communities, stressing that the organization remains focused on humanitarian work.
“Rotary is a network of professionals, business people, and community leaders dedicated to impacting lives positively.
“We are not politicians; we are here to serve, and communities should expect more projects from Rotary in the nearest future. That is who we are and what we do,” he stated.
The Head Teacher of the school, Mrs. Soliu Titilayo, expressed gratitude to the club for the intervention, noting that the school had long struggled with poor toilet facilities and water scarcity.
She added that both the pupils and the surrounding community would greatly benefit from the project.
As part of the Governor’s visit, a board meeting was also held with members of the club, where discussions centered on service delivery, community development, and future projects.
