The Ogun State Government has commended the Peace Initiative Committee of Nigeria, Ogun State Chapter, for its swift intervention in a recent cult clash at D.S Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori.
The committee, led by its chairman, Comrade Akeem Abioro, popularly known as Akoko, moved into action on Friday, September 12, following intelligence about a violent confrontation between rival cult groups on campus the previous day.
During a peace meeting with the students, Comrade Abioro and his team successfully resolved the crisis, settling disputes between the warring groups and issuing a stern warning against any recurrence of violence.
He emphasized that cultism has no benefits and urged students to channel their energy into academics. As part of the resolution, the students involved were compelled to sign an undertaking pledging never to engage in cult activities again.
“We don’t want to hear of any fight on this campus again. This is the last warning for both parties. We have your pictures and your signed undertaking, and if anything of this nature happens again, you will be handed over to the law and sent to jail,” Abioro firmly declared.
Also addressing the gathering, the PRO of the committee, Comrade Ifebola Togunwa, advised the students to be role models for their younger counterparts in secondary and primary schools, and to live up to expectations as responsible students of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic.
Speaking further, the Director of Entrepreneurship Development and Senior Special Assistant to the Council Chairman applauded the committee for its proactive efforts in restoring peace across schools and communities in Ogun State.
He highlighted the importance of education and urged the students to appreciate the sacrifices of their parents.
“Everyone needs peace, even at home. When there is peace, you are able to achieve so much more. Cultism does not lead anywhere positive in life. I want to give kudos to the Peace Initiative Committee for the great work they are doing to reduce cult activities and to build a safer Ogun State,” he said.
The peace meeting was attended by other members of the Peace Initiative Committee, who collectively reiterated their commitment to sustaining harmony within the state’s campuses and communities.
