Fresh fears have gripped residents of Katsina metropolis after gunmen staged a midnight raid in Filin Canada Quarters, killing a vigilante member and abducting a man, his wife, and daughter.
The victims, identified as 33-year-old Anas Ahmadu, his wife, and daughter Jidda, were whisked away around 3 a.m., according to police authorities. A 25-year-old community guard, Abdullahi Muhammad, lost his life while attempting to resist the attackers.
Police spokesperson Sadiq Abubakar confirmed the incident, noting that officers responded promptly but the gunmen escaped before reinforcement arrived. He added that Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional security personnel and intensified patrols within the area.
The abduction, which occurred in the state capital rather than rural communities often targeted by bandits, has sparked fresh debate about rising insecurity in urban centers of the North-West.
The command has appealed for calm, urging residents to provide timely information that could aid rescue operations, while assuring that such intelligence would remain confidential.
