Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Chapter have passed a vote of confidence on the leadership of Comrade Wale Olanrewaju during the May Congress, endorsing him for second term.
The vote of confidence was passed during the Union’s Congress, held at the Council’ Secretariat, Iwe-Iroyin.
The members during the congress reviewed pressing matters affecting journalists and the larger society.
It was reported that the highlight of the gathering was the commendation of Wale Olanrewaju’s impactful administration, marked by the successful execution of over sixteen key projects within the council secretariat in just two and a half years.
The NUJ members described his tenure as one of transformation and progress, reinforcing their trust in his vision and leadership.
The Congress also extended warm congratulations to His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, on the occasion of his 65th birthday and the sixth anniversary of his administration.
Members applauded his developmental strides across Ogun State and praised the successful hosting of the 2024 Gateway Games, which they noted significantly boosted the state’s visibility and sports infrastructure.
The NUJ also thanked Senator Shuaib Afolabi Salisu for donating solar power systems and essential equipment to support members’ welfare, and Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) for providing a solar-powered borehole with a water treatment facility to improve access to clean water in the community.
The Council reaffirmed its readiness to celebrate the NUJ’s 70th anniversary in June.
The Congress observed a moment of reflection for the recent passing of Comrade Bukola Agbakaizu and the spouse of Comrade Olusola Oladapo, spoke on the importance of regular health screenings and awareness, especially in the wake of rising cases of cardiac-related illnesses.
