Kogi Senator’s Residence Attacked by Gunmen
The family residence of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, was attacked by gunmen in the early hours of Tuesday.
The incident occurred at around 1 am at the senator’s home in Obeiba-Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to eyewitnesses, the assailants, numbering about three, were armed with guns and cutlasses.
They stormed the premises, damaging parts of the building, including windows.
However, the attackers fled the scene after security operatives from Okehi responded to a distress call.
The senator’s Chief Security Officer, Yakubu Ovanja, confirmed the incident and stated that the matter has been documented, with investigations ongoing.
No arrests have been made yet, but security sources assured that efforts are being made to apprehend the culprits.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan attributed the attack to her recent activities in her senatorial district.
She explained that the gunmen might have targeted her house thinking she was in town, following her brother’s visit to inspect locations for new projects in the area.
The senator revealed that the attackers were chased away by the civil defense team and community members who quickly responded to the incident. Fortunately, no one was hurt during the attack.
A report has been made to the police area command, and further investigations are underway.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was recently suspended by the Senate for alleged gross misconduct after a confrontation with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements.
