The National President of the Afenifere National Youth Council, Eniola Ojajuni, has been kidnapped and is pleading with Nigerians to help raise a N100 million ransom demanded by his abductors. In a distressing video that surfaced online on Monday, Ojajuni appeared tired and distressed, with a rifle pointed at his chest as he begged for financial assistance to secure his release.
According to Ojajuni, his abductors have threatened to kill him if their demand is not met. He appealed to Nigerians to donate any amount possible, saying “Nigerians, please help me! Your donation—N100,000, N50,000, or N1,000,000—can go a long way in saving my life.” The National Secretary of the council, Abiodun Aderohunmu, confirmed the abduction in a statement, revealing that Ojajuni was kidnapped in Abuja and sustained a gunshot wound on the buttock during the attack.
Aderohunmu called on the Federal Government and security agencies to take urgent action to secure Ojajuni’s release. Ojajuni himself made a desperate plea for help on his Facebook page on February 20, mentioning activists Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju. He wrote, “I am between life and death with two bullets in my buttocks, a bullet wound, with a high sugar level. My life now is dependent on both of you, who came to my mind now and other well-meaning Nigerians whose kindness can help save my life.”
The kidnapping of Ojajuni has sent shockwaves through the country, with many calling for his immediate release. The Afenifere National Youth Council has expressed its sadness over the incident and is working tirelessly to secure Ojajuni’s safe return.
The council has also appealed to the Federal Government to take decisive action to address the rising cases of kidnapping in the country. The government has been urged to provide adequate security for citizens and to bring perpetrators of such crimes to justice.
